4K SAT receiver - what to choose

Dear friends,

I plan to change my current original 10 years old DM500HD for the brand new 4K receiver. The question is what to choose. I would choose DM900/920, but I saw a presentation video of PurE2 6.2 that was running on Octagon SF4008 (http://pur-e2.club/OU/images/Videos/PurE…8-Eurosport.mp4). So the question is if it is better from drivers point of view or there is another points why developers (delfi) has chosen the Octagon receiver. I saw that that Octagon is half price of Dreambox, but the price is not always the right criteria.

So please give me some practical advice regarding the 4k boxes.

Thanks.

Well, I'm perhaps the worst person to recommend a box since I made some tragic suggestions in HiSilicon area:) Alas, since you did mention me, I could present some of *my* views, which could be completely irrelevant or wrong.

- 1st of all, it depends how do you use you box, i.e. causal 19E/13E or a DXer.
- 2nd, if you do have a motor/postioner/multiLnb you might want to consider some box with clever and modern tuners that work ok. If you are not in EU and care a bit about bad HW, you should consider service (DMM is really NOT great in that area). There are few (not a few) boxes that have decent fe/tuners, like zgemmah7, osmio4k, zero4k, sf8008, and some siblings. I probably missed some.
- 3rd: try to figure it out as per your needs and do not listen to gurus:)
- 4th: you might be surprised that if you make a wrong choice, your old box still works better (if carefully tuned) than some new boxes :)

I'm aware that I did not help much, but maybe did manage to clarify some items from my perspective (which could be wrong).

I was a long time Dreambox user and even admin of a Dreambox forum before I bought my first VU Duo in 2010. This box showed me that there were other good receiver manufacturers.
Dreambox and VU still build the most beautiful receivers with a very good hardware but they also still have the highest price

Since a few years I use now also more favorable devices and straight in the 4k range I am absolutely convinced of some devices in price achievement and quality.

The manufacturers Octagon, zgemma, Dinobot, AX, and Mutant have become my absolute favorites. Devices like the HD51 or H7 are unbeatable in price / performance. These devices are around 170 € and are perfect for it. Even cheaper is it in the range SF8008 or HD60 these devices are around 100-110€ this is a gift for such a device . The picture is better the hardware faster and the possibilities of such a box compared to an old Dream 500HD . Just try a cheap 4k if you don't like it you can still sell it for a good price.

The decision which box is the right one for you can be made by yourself from Dolphis Info -bier-

Thank you all for valuable answers.

I'm from EU, I use my DM500HD for receiving of SAT TV, no iptv streaming. Configuration is little complicated: 1W, 13E, 19E, 23E, 28E without positioner + CCcam + recording to 2TB HDD + streaming to local network and playing life SAT TV and recordings in Kodi using enigma2 plugin.

It works fine with up to 15% of CPU usage. Yes, with latest PurE2 the response of UI could be better (faster).

I would like to avoid a wrong choice. I can make a list of PurE2 supported boxes, but still I prefer to get a real user recommendations based on experience.

So, if you have something more to add to your previous recommendations (Octagon and VU), please do it. I will appreciate it.

Thank you very much.

All Pure2 Plugins run at this Box with a great speed . You can use an inside HDD ore you can also work with usb

The Octagon SF4008 is also a good Box but i am not shure if you can buy an new one ore is it sold out because the SF 8008 is comming .

I would advise one of these boxes .

I'm thinking about Zgemma H9S it fits my requirements except one thing I'm afraid of ... 256MB NAND - is it enough in these days ? Btw it is half price of H7S. Thanks a lot.

256MB is NOT a problem - use SEARCH function, my posts will explain... :12_small35:

Micro SD card will expand your NAND/Flash to as much as you want... PurE2 has the solution built-into it, in pManager > Scripts, as explained in my posts in detail... dvfgqv1e96
